It's all about Stamps, Ink and Paper

Hello Capital Stampers! Today I wanted to focus on the basics of cardmaking - stamps, ink and paper! After all, it's hard to put a card together without at least one of these items, right? So whether you have been stamping for years, or just picking up your first stamp set, I think there are a lot of great cards waiting to be made using just a few basic supplies.

For this first card, I used a layout I really like, which uses a couple layers offset from each other. One is a piece of Designer Series Paper, the other is stamped with images randomly with images from the Back to Back Blooms set from the January-June Mini Catalog.
I used Pool Party cardstock for the card base. The stamped panel is Basic White that measures 3" x 4". The blooms are stamped with Highland Heather and the leaves in Pool Party. The other layer is a piece of So Saffron 6 x 6" Designer Series Paper that measures 3 1/2" by 4 1/2". The sentiment is "Thinking Of You" from the Vine Design stamp set, stamped in Highland Heather on a strip of Basic White 1/2" wide. The layer underneath is Highland Heather 3/4" wide. Each strip was punched with the Lovely Labels Pick a Punch on one end.

This is a quick and easy card layout that you can use over and over. You can also step it up a bit by stamping an image randomly on your card base using the same color for a tone on tone look. You can also add embellishments like ribbon or adhesive gems, or pop up the greeting label with Stampin' Dimensionals.

This next card uses strips of Designer Series Paper for the background. This is a great layout to use up those scraps of paper you have laying around, and since Stampin' Up! products are so well coordinated, it's easy to find designs from the same paper pack that will look good together.

This card uses strips of Berry Delightful Designer Series Paper from the Berry Blessings Bundle, which is only available as a free Sale-a-Bration item through February 28th. To make this card, choose a neutral card base or one that coordinates with your Designer Series Paper. My card uses Petal Pink. You will also need a matching piece that is 5 1/4" by 4" on which to adhere your strips. The strips measure about 3/4" to 1 1/4" wide, and around 3" to 4" long. Cut out a flag on one end or use the Banners Pick a Punch. One strip should be white on which you can stamp your sentiment. I used one from the Berry Blessings stamp set from the Berry Blessings Bundle. You can step up this card as well by cutting out a strawberry from the Berry Delightful DSP or stamping and punching one from the Sweet Strawberry Bundle (available in the January-June Mini Catalog) and adhering it to the card with a Dimensional.

This last card is a fun accordion-style fold that features a piece of Flower & Field Designer Series Paper, also available exclusively as a Sale-a-Bration item.

To make this card, you will need to cut your Designer Series Paper at 5 1/4" by 11 3/4". Then score your DSP on the 11 3/4" side at 1 3/4", 4 3/4" and 7 3/4". Adhere the largest fold to your base cardstock layer which should be 5 1/2" by 4 1/4". I used Just Jade. The white panel for the inside is measured at 3 1/2" by 4 3/4". I layered mine with a piece of Basic Black cut at 3 5/8" by 4 7/8". The square on the front is layered with Basic Black that measures 2 3/4" square, Petal Pink that is 2 5/8" square, and white that is 2 1/4" square. I stamped the sentiment in Memento Black from the Free as a Bird stamp set, and added some of the small blooms from that set in Petal Pink. I also added leaves and a flower on the white inside panel in Just Jade and Petal Pink. There's room to step up this card too, by adding die cut or a punched piece to the front.

I made these cards during my Lunchtime Live today on Facebook. Check out the replay here.

Don't forget, Sale-a-Bration ends this Sunday, February 28th!! It's a great time to stock up on cardstock, adhesives, and envelopes, or get that stamp set, punch or bundle that you've had your eye on!

Celebrating Sale-a-Bration with Oval Occasions and Paper Blooms by Stampin' Up!

Hi Capital Stampers!

We are right in the middle of Sale-a-Bration, when you can earn FREE Stampin' Up! products with any $50 purchase! It's my favorite time of year, and I was super happy to find out that this year, Stampin' Up! is offering TWO Sale-a-Bration promotions! WOW!

Check out the items available to earn for FREE here!!

I had a piece of Rococco Rose cardstock stamped with the Buffalo Check background stamp in Rococco Rose left from a different project, so I put it together with a piece of the Paper Blooms DSP and a simple sentiment from the Oval Occasions stamp set to make this card. I think it turned out well, and was super quick to make.

For every $50 you spend with me through February 28th, you will earn a free Level 1 Sale-a-Bration item. If your order reaches $100, another level of products (Level 2) become available to choose from, or you can choose TWO Level 1 items! Once your order reaches $150, you can choose a Level 1 and a Level 2 item, or THREE Level 1 items, AND you will get host rewards to spend! More free stuff! Love it!

Happy Stamping!

Michelle
